Written by Robert Harling, “Steel Magnolias” is a heart-warming comedic play based on his own life experiences.  Centered in a small Louisiana town, the entire play takes place in Truvy’s beauty salon and revolves around the complicated relationship between a mother and daughter. Wickedly funny scenes are intertwined seamlessly with the more emotional moments of the play, and as the strength and fragility of each of the colorful characters is exposed, the resulting chemistry and bond between them is undeniable. It quickly becomes apparent these lifelong friends share the good and the bad together, and no matter what, they are a family in the truest sense of the word.

Don Amorosi, the director of “Steel Magnolias,” is hoping the audience finds the play charming and heartwarming in its message and delivery. “Yes, the play has some serious moments,” Mr. Amorosi says, “but so does life itself.”  “It will definitely take you on a roller coaster of emotions, however you won’t leave sad. You will appreciate friendships that you yourself have had for years and cherish them all the more.”

The talented cast, who have numerous shows among them, play the characters with honesty and sincerity, along with great comedic timing. Mr. Amorosi believes he hit the jackpot with this cast, and feels as if the show was written for each and every one of them.

Hunterdon Hills Playhouse, located in scenic Hunterdon County, is custom built to provide the very best in sight and sound. With spectacular shows, delicious table-served entrees, and professional talent, it is New Jersey’s premier dinner theatre.
